The famous Carpet Gardens are the centrepiece of Eastbourne’s promenade exhibiting vibrant displays of bedding plants, special planting features, cactus displays and fountains. One of the other attractions of Eastbourne is its seven sisters country park. Found at the point where the South Downs meets the sea, the Sisters were created when ancient rivers cut the valley into chalk, creating seven peaks. The area has a long interesting history including some fascinating shipwrecks, which can be discovered on a series of shore walks. You can also go for boat trips that depart from Sovereign Harbour Marina in Eastbourne and will give you a guided tour to Beachy Head and Seven Sisters. The tours are suitable for all ages and run from 40 minutes to 2 hours.
Eastbourne is home to six theatres each offering year round entertainment. The Congress theatre is where you can find touring west end shows, ballet, opera, comedy and live music. Devonshire Park Theatre is a fine example of a Victorian architecture with ornate interior decorations and hosts a number of plays and musicals all year round.
Eastbourne has an interesting variety of museums and galleries. The Towner Museum is an exciting new contemporary art museum which houses Eastbourne’s major art collections. A restored Napoleonic fortress, the Redoubt Museum is home to the a vast regimental collection of the Royal Sussex Combined Services.
Eastbourne also has a wide variety of sports and leisure centres, gyms and swimming pools that help to you keep active and healthy.
The city centre is just a short walk away from the beach. Eastbourne’s Arndale Centre offers a great day out with over 70 shops and stores to choose from. There are also a number of quirky and unique independent shops along the colourful and recently refurbished Seaside Road. A vibrant market at the Langney Shopping Centre is held every Tuesday and Saturday throughout the year.
