Hamilton Overview


Hamilton is a small town located in the lowlands of Scotland, it is a short 12 miles from Glasgow and 74 miles from Scotland’s capital Edinburgh. The oldest and most historic building in this town is the Low Parks Museum, here you will find out all the history of towns located in and around the Clyde Valley. There are often exhibitions taking place at the museum which are great to get involved with as well as a mezzanine café which will provide you with the perfect snacks and drinks whilst you visit the museum. There are four main shopping areas in Hamilton, Regent and New Cross shopping centre is a great place with a wide range of shops, a lot of the shops in the shopping centre offer student discounts so make sure you are keeping an eye out for those! There are also a lot of independent boutiques dotted around the town with a newly developed town square, after you have finished shopping in the town square then head over to the new Vue multiplex cinema where you will find all the latest movies. For those of you who enjoy a good night out at a club then the Palace is the place for you, with DJ’s performing there most nights and student nights it is not to be missed. One of Hamilton’s biggest and best attractions is the M&D’s amusement park, the park has a plethora of rides ranging from waterslides to large rollercoasters. It is not to expensive either but keep an eye out for group deals if there is a big group of you and your friends planning to go.

Sport in Hamilton


Hamilton Park Racecourse is a great place to visit with a great atmosphere, it is the perfect place to go with friends and the people who run the events there are usually very friendly. Hamilton Academical F.C. are a Scottish professional football team that currently play at the New Douglas Park Stadium, with a capacity of over 6000 the atmosphere here on match days is electric and a great day out. Dotted around Hamilton you will find lots of local parks and green spaces with well kept football pitches that are free to use for the public.

Escape Hamilton


A short drive to the north-west of the town is Glasgow which is a city that you will struggle to not find something to do, Glasgow has a great culture which are accompanied by the wide range of bars, restaurants, clubs, shopping and everything else you can imagine. To the north of the city you have the Loch Lomond & the Trossachs National Park which boast idyllic scenery and beautiful walking paths.

Transport in Hamilton


The M74 runs straight through Hamilton and links it to Glasgow and border between Scotland and England, once you have crossed the border the M74 will turn in to the M6 which runs from the north of England all the way to Manchester. From Glasgow you will be able to get direct trains to most major cities in Scotland as well as national coach services.
