Harrogate

Harrogate

Harrogate’s cosmopolitan charm and character owes much to its heritage as a popular Victorian spa town. Modern Harrogate is a major conference destination with a lively mixture of fabulous shopping, café culture, fine restaurants and plenty of green open spaces. It's a great place just to take it easy for a while. Watch the world go by in Montpellier Gardens, stroll around the town which is decorated with beautiful floral displays, relax on ‘The Stray’, 200 acres of green lawns surrounding the town, or stroll through the attractively landscaped Valley Gardens and up through the lush, green pine woods to the Royal Horticultural Society's Garden, Harlow Carr. Soak up some culture at the Mercer Art Gallery or Harrogate Theatre and discover the town's history at the Royal Pump Room Museum, once the main watering hole for visitors coming to Harrogate to take ‘The Cure’. For a very different experience spend a couple of hours in the Turkish Baths and Health Spa to detoxify in the steam and hot rooms. Smart streets and mews are filled with a wide choice of places to eat and drink. And there is a tempting choice of shops from boutiques to antiques. Source: Visit Britain
