Budleigh Salterton is an area of outstanding natural beauty full of old world charm, its fantastic red cliffs and beautiful walks are a paradise for nature enthusiasts, take a walk along the River Otter and discover numerous types of birds and wildlife galore. The picturesque village of East Budleigh is well worth a visit; just outside it is Hayes Barton the birthplace of Sir Walter Raleigh. The village church is rich in history with pew carvings dated amongst the earliest in the country; this and the old thatched vicarage where he was taught remain virtually unchanged. From here you can take in the magnificent scenery and walk across the cliffs to Exmouth or Ladram Bay and Sidmouth. Budleigh Salterton has some fascinating and interesting shops, mostly locally owned, so you'll be sure of a warm welcome and you'll find you are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out. The town is unique in that it doesn't have any large hotels, but you will find a number of family-run establishments and cosy B & B's along with self-catering cottages and flats.
