Bath

The World Heritage Site of Bath and the stunning countryside surrounding it is one of England's most beautiful places to visit. For over 2,000 years visitors have been enjoying this golden city. Bath is a unique city; its hot springs, Roman Baths, splendid Abbey and Georgian stone crescents have attracted visitors for centuries. Bath has some of the finest architectural and historic treasures in Europe, including the Roman Baths and the Pump Room, 15th-century Abbey and stunning Royal Crescent. But it’s no museum piece, despite its world-class history and heritage. Bath is a decidedly 21st-century city with an adventurous artistic and cultural life and sophisticated shopping. Delights to savour include the Georgian architecture, independent shops, a diverse range of restaurants, theatres and pubs along with unique museums, and a wide range of guided tours. Set in rolling Somerset countryside, just over 100 miles west of London, it is a beautiful and unforgettable place to visit. Surrounding countryside offers stunning stately homes and gardens, unique gems such as Stonehenge, the Cotswold’s and neighbouring Bristol, with its maritime history. In 2006 Bath’s status as a world-class city will be further enhanced with the opening of a stunning new spa complex, Thermae Bath Spa. A 2,000 year tradition is being revived. Bath will be a fully fledged spa once again. Source: Visit Britain
