Victoria School of English

Victoria School of English

General Info

The Victoria School of English is located in the heart of central London in the beautiful area of Chelsea. It is 3 minutes walk from Sloane Square, with its underground station, and many bus stops. Victoria train and underground station are only 10 minutes walk away. So we are well situated for exploring this great city. Many of the famous tourist attractions of London, such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and the well-known Harrods store in Knightsbridge are within walking distance of the school, and you are only a short underground ride from many others, such as London Eye, the West End, and South Bank. Chelsea itself is a fascinating district with an interesting history and a present day fashionable chic which makes it one of the most exclusive, and expensive, residential areas in London.

Accommodation Info

Many of our students live with English-speaking families in pleasant areas of South London from where it is easy to reach the school. Our families are carefully chosen and personally visited by us. They provide a single bedroom, breakfast and evening meal seven days a week for a reasonable cost. We believe that this "homestay" accommodation is a very important part of learning English. You become part of a family experiencing the British way of life and, most of all, using English in everyday conversation. It is also probably the cheapest for you to find comfortable accommodation, which includes most of your meals, in a really friendly atmosphere. It will take you up to about 30 minutes by train to get to the school from your homestay depending on the Zone and costs between £18 and £26 a week. You can also catch a bus, which takes longer but costs less - between £10 to £14 per week.

Social Activities

We have an active social program, which includes everything from museum trips to city visits. Every Friday afternoon we all go to the pub, and we also organise regular restaurant outings. In summer we enjoy the Victoria School Barbecue, Sports Day, and International Day. Many of these activities are free. When you do have to pay entrance fees or excursion costs we negotiate the lowest possible price for our students. Naturally you will also probably arrange activities yourself with friends and classmates from the school. Regular activities include: Visits to theatres, cinemas, musicals and concerts Guided walks through the historical and cultural areas of London such as Covent Garden and Trafalgar Square Visits to sightseeing attractions such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben and Tower of London Various sporting activities such as footballVisits to the famous galleries and museums such as Tate National Gallery and British Museum Visits to some of the hidden away galleries and museums of London Excursions to other cities, towns and places of interest e.g. Canterbury, Cambridge, Brighton, Stratford-upon-Avon and Stonehenge River boat trips Pub and restaurant evenings The occasional barbecue at the South London home of the directors Video afternoons and topical lectures at the school International Day at the school Weekend trips to European cities such as (Edinburgh, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels) in collaboration with Hallam Anderson Tours And finally our regular Friday lunchtime visit to the historic Duke of Wellington pub, at which students, teachers and management get together for a drink
