General Info
At the heart of International Community School are our English language students from the age of 3 - 17 years. Throughout the year our international community provides, interest, energy, enthusiasm and motivation to a student body who wish to learn English for their long term education. Our approach to language teaching is best characterised by the view that language learners of school age acquire the language best by extending their language use to those areas of content knowledge they are already familiar with. In this way progress in learning English goes hand in hand with learning new knowledge. During the academic year students have the unique opportunity to learn English in a real school context where they can also meet and participate in school activities with fluent speakers of English from our full curriculum programme. Long term students usually join in September and like short term students, they can join the programme at any time of the year. During the summer students enjoy making friends among the sixty different nationalities on our summer school programme every year. Specially designed programmes reflect the different stages of a student's academic and personal development to capture their interests and promote language learning. Students are welcome all through the year.
Accommodation Info
Staying with a homestay family is an important part of a student's study trip. London, a vibrant, exciting cosmopolitan city attracts people who wish to work, study and travel, and is home to a wonderful mix of nationalities. Our homestay families reflect the international nature of those who live in London. For many students, living in London will not mirror the same experience they are used to at home in their own countries. Students may need to adapt to life in London. Houses are different, the food is different and family traditions are different. All our families are fluent speakers of English, ready and willing to help students improve their communication skills. Accommodation for students aged from 10-17 years is arranged by an Accommodation Agency which has a long and trusted relationship with SKOLA schools. All the families are carefully selected, experienced with hosting, checked for suitability to work with children. We monitor every student's stay with a homestay provider to ensure the student is comfortable and happy in their new surroundings.
Social Activities
International Community School is committed to exploring the planet. With our range of expeditions, city breaks and summer camps, students have a fantastic opportunity to learn valuable life skills outside the classroom. Trips can be arranged to Cambridge, Oxford and Bawdsey, Suffolk.
