Description


The "Standard" course offers 12 lessons a week divided into four morning and afternoon sessions. Students receive an orientation, induction and level assessment, after which they are placed in a class with students of the same level. Class levels range from Elementary to Upper Intermediate/Advanced and weaker or stronger students can be catered for through one-to-one lessons. We attempt to initiate speech through many media, from pairwork and groupwork to individual presentations, group discussions, debates, role-plays and simulations, and the use of music, drama and games. This course has entertained literally thousands of students over the years and has proved to be very popular. It is suitable for children aged 7 - 18 and offers a variety of interesting excursions and sports. Children aged 7 - 9 should be accompanied by a parent or leader. The programme includes 3 sessions of visits or sports plus one full day excursion and at least one fully supervised disco and other evening activity each week (Discos dependent on student numbers). Activities such as these are included in the programme : Treasure hunts, visits to a local glass factory, Barnstaple pannier/cattle market, beach trips for swimming and beach games, trips to Exmoor and coastal walks. The full day excursions usually include : a visit to Exeter, a trip to Watersmeet, Lynton and Lynmouth and the Valley of Rocks ; Plymouth, Crealy Park , Tintagel and Wells. Sports include volleyball, English ball games, and swimming in Ilfracombe's modern indoor pool, also trips to the Leisure Centre in Barnstaple for indoor sports, including volleyball, badminton, table tennis, basketball, swimming and 10 pin bowling. All activities are supervised by our young English social organisers.
