General Info
The school is located in zone 2 and is only 15 minutes from the centre of London. Close to the school there are many shops, restaurants, pubs and cafes. The local residential area is very attractive and includes Hampstead Heath, Regents Park and Primrose Hill - the most beautiful parks in London. Camden Town is famous for its market (selling everything from clothes and music to antique furniture). It is also the place where London's musicians, artists and actors live. Students come to Camden College of English from all over the world - some for one week, others stay for a year or more. How do they spend their time in London? Some students study in the morning and then visit London in the afternoon. Others take intensive courses and study in the morning and afternoon. We also have a number of students who find part-time jobs (usually in bars, restaurants or shops) or work as au pairs (looking after children).
Accommodation Info
We understand that for a lot of students accommodation is the biggest worry. We hope that we can remove the worry and arrange a place where you will be happy and comfortable. We can arrange for you to stay in a homestay, private home or student residence. We always try to place our students as close to the school as possible. Sometimes the accommodation is in walking distance or you may have a journey by bus or underground (usually not more than 20 minutes). Homestay is accommodation where you stay with a host in flat or house. You can also practise your English when you have breakfast and dinner with the host. Your host will either be a single person or a couple. Some hosts have children, others may be older and retired. The difference between a private home and homestay is that in a private home you are responsible for making your own breakfast and dinner. This means you will have less contact with your host and so it is a good choice for students who want to be more independent. We place students in three residences: Bartrams (open all year, female only), Hyelm (summer only) and Shafer House (summer only). The residences are great for making friends and meeting lots of people from all over the world.
Social Activities
The school arranges a variety of activities during the year, some during the week and others on weekends. The activities are all accompanied by a member of staff and are designed to give you the chance to experience and appreciate the culture and life in London and the UK. There is a strong tradition at Camden College of English to keep the cost of these activities as low as possible because we want you to join in with everything. These are the kind of social activities that students are encouraged to join in, they include: Picnics at Camden College of English are famous! We ask students to prepare some food from their country and then put everything in the middle and share! There is nothing better than spending a sunny afternoon in one of London's park with a wonderful group of people. We have parties for many different reasons... Valentines, Halloween, Christmas, Birthdays, end of exams and sometimes just because we all want a party! The book club is your opportunity to read and discuss books in English with a teacher and other students. Each month there is a different book - so you have 4 weeks to read and prepare. The film club is a weekly afternoon activity, giving you the chance to improve your listening and watch a film with other students.
