General Info
The school has grown in size and reputation. Many students comment on the "family" atmosphere of BEET. It is currently the only Bournemouth school to have been invited into membership of Quality English, the organisation of Britain's leading independent language schools.
Accommodation Info
Living in a homestay has many advantages. Most importantly, you have the chance to practise English throughout your stay, and to make friends with English people. We choose our homestays very carefully, both for the facilities they have to offer and, more especially, their abilities to give you the warmth and welcome of a "home away from home". Your homestay will treat you as a full member of the household, eating together and sharing the common living areas. You are provided with a single room, or shared room if required, a quiet place for study, breakfast and evening meals during the week and full board at the weekends. We carefully consider the information you give us about yourself on the enrolment form when trying to find the right family for your needs. It is important to know whether you like young children or pets, smoke, have any allergies or a medical condition, or require a special diet. As the school is situated in a residential area, most homestays are within easy walking distance. During the summer months, some of the accommodation may be a little further away. NOTE: Under British Council regulations, “homestay” has a maximum of three adults. If there are more than three, the accommodation is classed as a “private home” and, “there may be less direct contact with the host(s)”. However, at BEET we operate the highest standards, and hosts are expected to provide the same caring and “direct contact” in a private home as in a homestay. Please remember, you choose the type of accommodation you want. If you prefer to be the only student, or to have the companionship of other students, this can be arranged. There will be no other students of the same mother-tongue as you. Student Houses (Self-Catering Accommodation) BEET owns a number of typical family houses, which have been converted for student use. During the summer, we rent additional houses normally used by the university. Accommodation is mostly in a single room, although each house also has a twin and a double room. There is a maximum of five or six students living in one house. Shared facilities include the living room with television and video, a kitchen-diner, washing machine and a shower and bathroom. Most houses also have a garden, usually with a barbecue.
Social Activities
BEET offers opportunities to continue practising your English and to form friendships outside class room. The school provides a varied programme of lectures, videos, international meals evenings, quizzes and music. There are also regular social evenings, when students can play a number of games, including Scrabble, Monopoly, chess and cards, or more physical activities such as table-tennis, darts and snooker. Occasional evening visits to the theatre, sports venues or New Forest pubs are also organised.
