Undergraduate degrees at UK universities
The bachelor’s degree in the UK normally takes three years to complete and most are awarded at honours level (BA Hons).
Examples of bachelor degrees are:
- BA – Bachelor of Arts,
- BEng – Bachelor of Engineering and
- BSc- Bachelor of Science.
Master’s course at UK universities
The M.Sc. is typically a “taught” postgraduate degree, involving lectures, examination, and a short project. Taught Master’s programmes involve 1 or 2 years of full-time study (or the equivalent period part-time).
Examples of Master’s degrees are:
- MA – Master of the Arts (Humanities, Arts, Languages)
- Msc – Master of the Sciences (Science, Mathematics)
- MPhil – Master of Philosophy (Research degree…)
UK university entry requirements for overseas students:
Academic – students must be at least 18 years old and have completed secondary education in their own country.

Students who have completed part of their bachelor’s degree programme in their own country can apply for second or third year entry to a UK degree.
Language – students must have taken an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) examination and have a score of 5.5 – 6.0 (Undergraduate courses) and 6.5 – 7.0 (Postgraduate courses) overall for most universities. Many of our universities offer pre-sessional English courses.
